I am very happy to share with you my contribution to the Cinémathèque Idéale des Banlieues du Monde x Ateliers Médicis, 12 works that are dear to me, as I explain in my introductory text, excerpt:
“The program I am proposing for the Cinémathèque idéale des banlieues du monde, on the occasion of Pride month, is a political and emotional gesture that allows me to simultaneously: bring as many Afro-descendant queer filmmakers as possible into the catalog (7 women, 1 non-binary person, and 4 men); celebrate the formal boldness and the radical nature of the themes carried by these filmmakers; share the films that allowed me to no longer be dissociated in my cinephilia and that gave me the courage to imagine myself as a director. I therefore invite you to navigate through nearly 40 years of Afro-queer works that certainly hold central importance in my journey, but that are above all an essential presence in the Black and queer Atlantic of cinema.”
